Following the success of the first (January 1921) printing of the 2nd edition,
Lawrence withdrew his Introduction. The publishers then reprinted the work as the
'third edition' with an additional Preface by Doughty. In this form the book was reprinted
three times (September 1921, September 1923 and May 1924).
Lawrence's Introduction was restored in this first 'one-volume' reprint, which is
therefore the 2nd English printing of the Introduction.
