It has been claimed that Scots Guard, which was edited for publication by John Gawsworth after Ewart's untimely death, 'was read by Lawrence in page proof. Lawrence returned the proof marked up with extensive corrections and suggested word changes, all but four of which were adopted by the publisher.'
