Places associated with T. E. Lawrence in Dorset

Bovington Camp
Lawrence served at Bovington Camp from 1922-5, but almost nothing remains of the camp as he would have known it. Bovington is now famous for the Tank Museum, which is one of Dorset's top visitor attractions. The museum holds a Rolls Royce armoured car and a Brough Superior motor-cycle (not one of Lawrence's). A special Lawrence exhibit was recently dismantled, but is to be reinstated at a new location.

Clouds Hill
Lawrence's cottage near Bovington Camp remains much as he left it in 1935. The cottage is not open every day, and visiting times are restricted. Consult the National Trust website for opening times before planning a visit.

Dorset County Museum
Holds one of the world's major collections of material relating to Thomas Hardy, including five letters from Lawrence. Also holds a lock of Lawrence's hair cut when he was a small child (this is not normally on display).
